  John worked in mines in Scotland at age 11 (about). He moved to Boston, worked as a laborer, building Jordan Marsh. He got a job as a policeman, quit his laborer job, celebrated and fell. He injured himself in the fall preventing him from working as a policeman. He moved to Peabody and worked in a leather factory. (per Ann Misoda) John was a stationary engineer by trade, employed for many years by the Leach and Heckel Tanning Co. of Salem. He died June 5, 1946, after a long illness. John's funeral was held June 7, 1946 at 8:15 AM from his home at 24 Belleview Avenue followed by a requiem high mass at St. James Church, Salem at 9:00 AM, celebrated by the Reverand Robert C. Hilton. His pallbearers were James Sullivan, Daniel Sullivan, Jeremiah Harrigan, Thomas Roche, Patrick Cahill, and Patrick Kennedy. He was buried at St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem under the direction of P.W. Murphy & Son. (Salem Eve. News, June 5 & 7, 1946)
